#fatfriday review / Chocolate Fudge Brownie @ Mike’s Pastry
I’ve been thinking about this Fudge Brownie ever since I saw it a couple of weeks ago, so I made the trip back to Little Italy to get myself in on the action. Since being in Boston, I haven’t really been wowed by a proper American style brownie, at least not one that was done *really* well. For me, an American style brownie is much taller and bigger generally in size than the standard richer thinner slice. It should be a less refined brownie that is sweet and gooey throughout with lots of frosting and goodness. I did pick up one from Sweet Tooth but it really just wasn’t that great (slightly bland, dry, stale and not worthy of a #fatfriday review) and I was actually a bit surprised the bakery reviewed so well online (awks). I also had the Crumbs Brownie and “Cookie Dough” combo, but even though I enjoyed it at the time, it did not make a place in my happy food memories and certainly have not had a craving to get another.
So upon taking my giant brownie home for Muggsie to get a perve on, I was slightly worried it may just end up being a bit rubbish. My hopes of brownies of the U.S.A. were nearly gone.
Naughty yummy treat: Chocolate Fudge Brownie.

Portion size: It’s a whopper.
Sickliness: Super sweet but oh so satisfying.
Notes: Behold the king of American style brownies. This tastes like how I would expect a proper American brownie to taste – dense, super chocolately, with a generous slathering of the most divine fudge icing. It is moist throughout, which is pleasantly surprising given its ginormity. I’d probably classify it as more of a brownie cake given its size, but without any cakey texture (which should never feature in *any* brownie). I understand there is some real hype about Mike’s Cannolis, but for me this brownie is the real showstopper.
